Flaxleaf Pimpernel

Anagallis monelli, commonly known as Flaxleaf Pimpernel, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the family Primulaceae. This species is native to the Mediterranean region, particularly found in countries such as Spain, Portugal, and Italy, but it has also been introduced to other areas, including parts of North America and New Zealand. Flaxleaf Pimpernel typically exhibits a low growth habit, reaching heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. The plant has a sprawling or prostrate form, often forming dense mats that can spread effectively across the ground.

The leaves of Anagallis monelli are slender and linear, resembling those of flax, which is how it derives its common name. They are usually arranged oppositely along the stem and can vary in color from green to a bluish-green hue. The flowers are one of the most striking features of the plant, presenting a vivid blue to purple color with five petals that are often marked with darker spots.
