Dwarf Milkvetch

Astragalus microcystis, commonly known as Dwarf Milkvetch, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the legume family, Fabaceae. This species is native to the western United States, particularly found in regions such as the Rocky Mountains and surrounding foothills, thriving in dry, rocky soils and often associated with sagebrush steppe ecosystems. Dwarf Milkvetch typically exhibits a low growth habit, reaching heights of about 10 to 30 centimeters (4 to 12 inches). Its form is generally compact and cushion-like, which allows it to withstand harsh environmental conditions.

The leaves of Astragalus microcystis are pinnately compound, consisting of several small leaflets that contribute to its distinctive appearance.
