Dry Calcareous Bryum Moss is a resilient moss species found in calcareous soils across Europe and North America.
Also known as: Dry Calcareous Bryum Moss
Bryum caespiticium, commonly known as Dry Calcareous Bryum Moss, is a species native to various regions across Europe and North America, thriving particularly in calcareous soils. This moss typically grows in dense, cushion-like tufts, reaching heights of 2 to 5 centimeters. Its growth habit allows it to effectively colonize rocky substrates and disturbed areas, contributing to soil stabilization and moisture retention in its environment. The leaves are small, lanceolate, and often have a distinctive crisp texture, with a bright green color that can turn reddish in dry conditions. The sporophytes, which are the reproductive structures, consist of elongated capsules that emerge on slender stalks, releasing spores for propagation during favorable conditions.
