Kunth’s Onion

Allium kunthii, commonly known as Kunth’s Onion, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the mountainous regions of Mexico, particularly found in the states of Puebla and Oaxaca. This species typically grows in rocky, well-drained soils at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 meters. Kunth’s Onion exhibits a growth habit characterized by a height of approximately 30 to 60 centimeters, with a clumping form that allows it to thrive in its native habitat. The plant features narrow, linear leaves that are green and can reach lengths of about 30 centimeters, providing a striking contrast to the flowering stalks that emerge in the late spring to early summer.
