Largeflower Onion

Allium macropetalum, commonly known as Largeflower Onion, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the mountainous regions of Central Asia, particularly found in countries such as Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. This species typically grows to a height of 30 to 70 centimeters, exhibiting a robust, upright growth habit. The plant forms a clump of narrow, strap-like leaves that can reach up to 50 centimeters in length, which are usually green and may have a slightly glaucous appearance. The leaves arise from a basal rosette and can be distinguished by their flat, linear shape.

The most notable feature of Allium macropetalum is its inflorescence, which consists of large, spherical umbels composed of numerous star-shaped flowers. The flowers are typically pale to deep purple, with six tepals that are elongated and pointed, giving the plant its common name.
