Appendage Brodiaea

Brodiaea appendiculata, commonly known as Appendage Brodiaea, is a perennial herb native to the western United States, particularly found in California’s grasslands and open woodlands. This species typically grows to a height of 12 to 18 inches, forming a clump of narrow, strap-like leaves that emerge from a corm. The flowers are a striking deep blue to violet, arranged in a loose umbel atop a slender stalk, with each flower featuring six petal-like tepals that are often adorned with distinctive appendages, giving the species its common name. The flowering period occurs in late spring to early summer, attracting various pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which play a crucial role in its reproduction and the overall health of its ecosystem.
