Umpqua Mariposa Lily

Calochortus umpquaensis, commonly known as the Umpqua Mariposa Lily, is a perennial herb native to the Umpqua River basin in southwestern Oregon. This species typically grows to a height of 12 to 30 inches, featuring slender, upright stems that support its delicate blossoms. The leaves are narrow and grass-like, emerging from the base of the plant, while the flowers are characterized by their striking, cup-shaped appearance, often displaying a mix of white, yellow, and purple hues. The flowering period occurs in late spring to early summer, attracting various pollinators, including bees and butterflies, which play a crucial role in its reproduction. After flowering, the plant produces a capsule containing small seeds that are dispersed by wind and water, aiding in its propagation across its native habitat.
