Also known as: Prairie Camas

Camassia angusta, commonly known as Prairie Camas, is a perennial herb native to the prairies and open woodlands of the northwestern United States and Canada. This species typically grows to a height of 12 to 24 inches, forming a clump of narrow, strap-like leaves that can reach up to 18 inches in length. The flowers are a striking blue to violet, arranged in a loose raceme atop a sturdy stem, blooming in late spring to early summer. Each flower features six petal-like tepals, which are attractive to various pollinators, including bees and butterflies. The fruit is a capsule that contains several seeds, which can be dispersed by wind and water, aiding in the plant’s propagation across its native range.
