Its range extends from southern Ohio and West Virginia to parts of Kentucky and Virginia, often inhabiting moist, shaded woodland areas, particularly in rich, well-drained soils. The species typically exhibits a growth habit of 60 to 120 centimeters in height, forming clumps that can spread through rhizomatous growth. The overall form is upright and bushy, with multiple stems arising from a central crown.
The leaves of Ageratina luciae-brauniae are distinctive, being ovate to lanceolate in shape, with serrated margins and a dark green coloration. They can reach lengths of up to 15 centimeters and are arranged oppositely along the stem.
