Pineland Rayless Goldenrod

Bigelowia nudata ssp. nudata, commonly known as Pineland Rayless Goldenrod, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the southeastern United States, particularly found in the sandy soils of pine forests and open woodlands. This species typically grows to a height of 1 to 3 feet, exhibiting a clumping growth habit with slender, erect stems that are often unbranched. The leaves are narrow and linear, arranged alternately along the stem, and can be up to 6 inches long, providing a lush green backdrop to the striking floral display. The flowers, which bloom in late summer to early fall, are small and yellow, forming dense clusters at the top of the stems, attracting a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, while the absence of ray florets gives it the ‘rayless’ designation.
