Brewer’s Rockcress

Arabis breweri var. pecuniaria, commonly known as Brewer’s Rockcress, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the western United States, particularly found in the mountainous regions of California and Nevada. This variety typically grows in rocky, well-drained soils at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 meters. The growth habit of Brewer’s Rockcress is characterized by a low, mat-forming structure that can reach heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. Its form is often compact, allowing it to thrive in harsh alpine environments where competition from larger plants is minimal.

The leaves of Arabis breweri var. pecuniaria are lanceolate to ovate, measuring approximately 2 to 8 centimeters in length, and are often covered with fine hairs that provide some degree of protection against herbivory and desiccation. The plant produces small, white to pale pink flowers, typically arranged in racemes, which bloom from late spring to early summer.
