Hoffmann’s Rockcress

Arabis hoffmannii, commonly known as Hoffmann’s Rockcress, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the mountainous regions of the western United States, particularly found in the states of California and Nevada. This species typically grows in rocky, well-drained soils at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 meters. The growth habit of Hoffmann’s Rockcress is characterized by a compact form, reaching heights of approximately 15 to 30 centimeters. The plant often forms dense mats or clumps, which can help stabilize the soil in its native habitat.

The leaves of Arabis hoffmannii are basal and lanceolate to ovate in shape, measuring about 2 to 10 centimeters in length. They are typically glabrous or sparsely hairy, with a dark green coloration that may turn purplish in response to environmental stress. The flowering period occurs in the spring, producing small, four-petaled white to pale pink flowers arranged in racemes.
