Bear Valley Sandwort

Arenaria ursina, commonly known as Bear Valley Sandwort, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family. This species is native to the western United States, particularly found in the mountainous regions of California, including the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Range. It typically inhabits subalpine and alpine environments, thriving in rocky, well-drained soils and often found in meadows and along the edges of snowfields.

Bear Valley Sandwort exhibits a growth habit characterized by a low, mat-forming structure, generally reaching heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. The plant has slender, erect stems that are often branched at the base.
