This species typically grows to a height of 1 to 2 meters and exhibits a rounded, bushy form. Its growth habit is well-suited to the harsh, saline environments in which it thrives, often found in alkaline soils and disturbed sites, such as salt flats and desert scrublands.
The leaves of Torrey’s Saltbush are distinctive, being alternate, simple, and often covered with a fine layer of white to grayish hairs, which helps reduce water loss by reflecting sunlight. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate in shape and can vary in size, typically measuring 2 to 8 centimeters long.
