Little Kern Milkvetch

Astragalus shevockii, commonly known as Little Kern Milkvetch, is a perennial herbaceous plant endemic to the southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California, specifically within the Kern River watershed. This species typically thrives in subalpine environments, often found in rocky, well-drained soils at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 meters. Little Kern Milkvetch exhibits a growth habit characterized by a compact form, usually reaching heights of 15 to 30 centimeters. The plant forms a low, spreading mat, which helps it stabilize the soil in its native habitat.
