Also known as: Hoover's Brodiaea
Brodiaea elegans ssp. hooveri, commonly known as Hoover’s Brodiaea, is a perennial herb native to the grasslands and open woodlands of California. This subspecies typically grows to a height of 30 to 60 centimeters, exhibiting a tufted growth habit with narrow, linear leaves that emerge from a bulb. The flowers are striking, featuring a star-shaped arrangement with six petal-like tepals that can range in color from pale lavender to deep purple, blooming in late spring to early summer. The fruit is a capsule that contains several seeds, which are dispersed by gravity and water, aiding in its propagation in its native habitat.
