Description
Black Horehound (Ballota nigra)
Black horehound is a hardy perennial herb in the mint family known for its distinctive dark green leaves, purplish flowers, and strong herbal aroma. Native to Europe and Western Asia and now naturalized in many parts of North America, it has a long history in traditional herbal medicine. This rugged plant grows easily in a wide range of soils and produces clusters of small tubular flowers that attract pollinators during the summer.
Traditional Uses
Black horehound has historically been used in herbal traditions for several purposes:
- Nausea relief
- Motion sickness support

- Digestive discomfort
The leaves contain bitter and aromatic compounds that stimulate digestion and were traditionally used in herbal teas and tinctures.
